They call it the Kasa incident. I don't think many people actually know the nature of what really happened.

This is a very long quest which holds the main storyline and lore for Chapter Zero, The Journey Begins.

NPCs Involved

The Quest

1) Starting the quest

Find Post Warden Vastila during the day, she will ask you to deliver Knot describing a Shatran move to the Bridge Sentry.

Hey, Traveler… You don't know me but I have a hunch you might be trusted. I have this personal delivery that I would love to -

2) Returning what was hers

Located in Char Cape Passage in the Train Wardern's House, the Bridge Sentry will exchange the Knot describing a Shatran move for Vastila's Bracelet. Bring bracelet back to Post Warden Vastila

NOTE:

  1. You cannot continue the quest if you have traded off Vastila's Bracelet.
  2. You cannot continue the quest if you speak to Post Warden Vastila at night, the quest will be bugged and Post Warden Vastila will not accept the bracelet afterwards, even during the day.
  3. Make sure you have an empty inventory slot when giving the the Knot describing a Shatran move to the Bridge Sentry. If your inventory is full, you will only receive an alert about it and the quest will break.

After returning the bracelet, Post Warden Vastila tells you to visit her during the night under a pavilion in Kuro Orchard.

When you visit her with her friends, she would talk about the group and request that if you make your rounds in Siram Fields to find gossip.

Reward

4) Frail Knots (optional)

This step is optional but does give the player greater information about the situation in Kasa and more opportunities to interact with the Night Bathers. Around Braided Shore, you might find a Dead pigeon that contains Singer rosary and a Damaged animal skull. Keep the Singer rosary from Day 28 and pass them to Post Warden Vastila. Vastila will comment on those, specifically the two that starts with:

I wake up from slumber frowning

Post Warden Vastila will urge you to find out more of Kasa and any other evidence of the Singer. You can also talk to Miller Yeget to get more lore of the Singer.

Have you seen this entry from Singer's journal?! It reads as he was a witness to a murder! In the Arch Pavillion, no less! I wonder if he was captured by the wardens? We must try to find more Journal entries! We have to know! I don't know the exact date of which this happened, but since The Kasa blockade is still in effect… Could it be the Singer the Coroners are looking for? What the roadblocks are for? Please, Dandelion! If you find any more clues on Singer or what is going on in Kasa, bring it to us right away!

5) A rumor (optional)

In Siram Fields, In the long line of people waiting to get back into Kasa, speaking to one of the children present, you get to hear a rumor that there are some Kasaian children that were able to sneak out of Kasa to sell goods and are near the rails. This is a clue to progressing the quest.

6) Goods from Kasa

The Patterfoot Gang are located at the North East in Char Cape Passage under a shelter next to the train rails. Trade items with the Kasa Street Kid. They have a random assortment of items. They can carry several quest items. You can acquire any one of these in any order

If you buy the broken lute, the Patterfoot vendor will react by saying:

You really found that old broken lute interesting, Wanderer?

Once you have acquired one of these items, you may return to The Night Bathers at night with the item in your inventory. You can also return multiple times to acquire more items and repeat the next step as many times as needed.

Reward

7) Identifying evidences

a) Message revealed

Having the Marble and cobalt-coloured knot message in your inventory, Post Warden Vastila will ask you to exchange it with Archivist Tisleth, it will be identified as the Coroner Custodian's report.

8) The incident unravels…

After identifying the objects, you can finally talk to Farmer Ravda to get the final summary of what happened in Kasa…

Reward

Instead of blabbering like a gang of school kids like some others I could mention.

I have been connecting the dots and crossing the t's of Dandelion's findings over these past few days…

Probably my mind has been tempered by juggling farm work and a swarming family so that I can sort the chaff from the wheat…

And draw lines in the willow pattern of what happened to Singer and what happened in Kasa…

So, Here is my conclusion;

Singer began his journey, binding journal entries every day describing his travels.

He entered Kasa just a few days before the incident to which he was fated to become a witness.

Having set himself up in a cheap and lofty place to stay, in a tower overlooking the political district of Kasa…

On his second night in the tower, burning the midnight oil over his lute on some unfinished melody, he became witness to some kind of apparently pre-arranged ritual between the Arch Sefra and the Union leader of the Esoteric Union: Grandmaster Grahma.

The ritual proved violent spectacle that left the Sefra lifeless on the floor, and the servant girl who assisted in the ritual, by Master Grahma's hand, dead.

Shocked by the sight, Singers lute slipped from his hands.

The sound of it smashing against the cobble below drew the Council wardens' attention.

From some hiding place in the city, Singer attached his messages intended for us to his homing pigeons and sent them skywards.

Only one of his rosary however, the one we have hanging here in our Pavillion, managed to reach us.

Singer did not suspect after he has released his homing pigeons the next day, that the city warden falcons would be used to hunt down and kill any and all message birds, leaving Kasa.

In the aftershock at the loss of the Arch Sefra, the Kasa council held a flash vote, deciding by a small margin to disband itself and give emergency power to the Northern council in New Foundary.

The New Foundary council moved fast to commission two of their number to form a Coroner task force to investigate the details of the Kasa incident, not least the unheard fact that it was possible for Sefra to die.

Something that had always been believed impossible, and that if true would shake the foundation of the entire belief system of Braided Shore.

A part of the New Foundary city watch were drafted to assist the Coroners and began cordoning of areas and assist the Coroner's in various ways.

It appears Grandmaster Grahma only have vague memories of what happened the night of the Sefra's demise, but he accuses the Sefra's demise, but he accuses the Servant girl tampering with the Mystics' and the Sefra's spirit counselling ritual.

The Coroners wardens made a thorough investigation of the Servant woman's body and then hid the remains somewhere in the old Kasa cemetery.

Since the Coroners investigation and blockades are still in effect…

Unless there are some obscure political reason beyond the crime and shock at the death of a Sefra, I can only surmise that the Coroners are not fully content with Grandmaster Grahma's account of the "murder".

And that is all I can surmise from the journals and evidence that has reached us.

How does this tale sit with you, my friends?

Rumors

There are many rumors about Kasa following the blockade and much speculation about the political fallout of the incident.
