Book of Travels Wiki:Admin noticeboard
Please note: community administrators are often easily accessible on the wiki Discord by pinging the @Wiki People role
Welcome to the Admin Noticeboard!
Please use this page to report wiki issues that require admin action (i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.) and to ask questions that require admin input. Posting here is a way to reach all admins, but most importantly: the first one available!
Note:
- Don't forget to sign your message by using four tildes:
~~~~
. - Deletion requests are not handled on the noticeboard, but by editors adding
{{delete|reason for deletion request}}
to the top of the page they want deleted. This will automatically mark the page as a candidate for deletion. - Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
If you would like to report vandalism:
- Please first revert the vandalism or, if the user created a new page, tag it for deletion.
- Consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason for your action.
- Post here if the vandal has made several disruptive edits (or persists despite your message).
- To report the vandal, include
{{user}}
in the topic subject/headline. - Avoid a revert war with the vandal and let an admin intervene.
Current Issues
The Wiki.gg update to version 1.41 has caused a number of CSS issues, which are impacting templates and the visual look of the wiki. Admins are looking into this, and please bear with us while we investigate. Known issues are Tabber headings, the Search function, Collapsible templates.
If you see other parts of the wiki not working right, please let us know. Thanks on behalf of the admin team, Mossywalker (talk) 20:51, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
Point for discussion - we need a better and clearer way to refer to NPCs who have the same (or similar) names. There are a few different examples of this:
- the multiple different NPCs called Travelling Merchant,
- the new Stray Cat NPC, and possible confusion with Flik
- the different types of Fisher
Just to name a few that spring to mind.
In the case of the Travelling Merchants, Maesa has suggested referring to these as “Travelling Merchant, selling umbrellas”, rather than “Travelling Umbrella Merchant” - since the game already has NPCs consistently in the format "Travelling ___ Merchant" such as Travelling Spell Merchant. Keeping "Travelling ___ Merchant" might cause confusion to players who are used to BoT NPC names, and may think this is how they're referred to in-game rather than just in-wiki.
- Travelling Merchant, selling umbrellas is not similar to other NPC disambiguations. To Maesa's point, neither is Travelling Umbrella Merchant. Suggest Travelling Merchant (Umbrella) which is more in line w Old Man vs Old Man (Bat Saha). Qiandaizi (talk) 13:49, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
In the case of the new Stray Cat NPC, I think putting something similar to Wikipedia's "Did you mean... Flik" at the top of the page might be a useful idea?
I think these issues will only get more complicated over time, as MaD seem to have released several similar-named NPCs in recent updates.
Open to thoughts! Mossywalker (talk) 22:24, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
Can we do redirects for container objects with alternate names. Knowing which alt-name goes with which images is not intuitive or common knowledge I think a redirect would solve confusion.Qiandaizi (talk) 13:47, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- I'm happy for redirects to be added - this is already the case with some container pages like Thicket which redirects to Tuft. I agree having to know the exact name is not intuitive or user-friendly. Mossywalker (talk) 06:14, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
Resolved Issues
- Cup from Voices' tavern, Hair knot ring, Superstitious string ward knot are indexed in the T section for some reason. I know there's some way to fix this, but I can't remember what it is.Qiandaizi (talk) 01:59, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- Unsure where this was happening. Adjusted categories and removed the "|thumb" that was contained in divs above the infobox. This might have addressed the issue. Please let me know if it persists. Thank you, WillowsGuardian (talk) 21:25, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry was in the trade goods index. Appears to be resolved now. Thank you. Qiandaizi (talk) 00:56, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- Similar issue in Category:Equipment index where Common jute hat, Common sack, Fig tree walkers Forestwarden's apple blade, Halfrobe of the Or Hab Cult, Lamellar heartguard, Leaking oil lantern, Ovi Talif headscarf, Pale pink shawl, Piece of coral, Vibrant pale-cinnabar shawl, Wooden arm shield are all listed in the E section btw Enforcer's dented helmet and Evening wrappings. Tried the deleting "|thumb" but does not work. Qiandaizi (talk) 14:21, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
- Adjusting Category:Equipment|Equipment to Category:Equipment on the item page seems to have fixed this Mossywalker (talk) 22:03, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- So I was checking out Orphaned Pages in the to do section and there are a ton of orphaned pages, but when I click, some of them definitely are linked to other pages. https://bookoftravels.wiki.gg/wiki/Special:LonelyPages Qiandaizi (talk) 16:41, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hiya, the orphaned pages should be ones where no other pages link to them. So for example if any of the trade goods are found at a merchant, you can update the merchant page to link to the trade good and it will disappear from the orphaned list.
- Have you found any which are definitely linked to from other pages? Mossywalker (talk) 19:10, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Did you check the link that I included or am I just seeing something different than what I am supposed to? Qiandaizi (talk) 20:14, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- We're talking about the same list, I think I'm just doing a bad job of explaining it sorry! I've put something in the wiki discord to try and help explain this Mossywalker (talk) 20:37, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place, but is there a page on Shrines and what their effects are? Some of them seem to give different effects and have different status effect language. Also the Haunted Headstone page needs some fleshing out imho. Qiandaizi (talk) 14:22, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hiya - there's Effects as an overview, which Willows had begun working on, where there's a section for shrines/headstones - and the Status Effects page that can then go into more detail into individual effects. I agree the Haunted headstone, Dormant Altar and Sefra Shrine pages can all be fleshed out. Effects are listed on the Community Portal list if it's something you'd like to work on? Mossywalker (talk) 18:52, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Dormant altar! That's what I was thinking of. I'll work on figuring out what the limitations/possibilities are with those and then I'll see how I feel about Status Effects if that's ok. Qiandaizi (talk) 02:09, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- Great, thanks! :) Mossywalker (talk) 07:50, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- The Char Cape Passage page is showing an Internal Error. Mossywalker (talk) 20:20, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Have commented out the Pickup map and the page is showing again. Will keep investigating, and will leave this info here for now incase there's similar errors on other pages. Mossywalker (talk) 20:38, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Three other Location pages affected - Crossings, Jade Urn Pavillion, Mist Keeper's Toe. All commented out so the pages remain functional while investigating. Mossywalker (talk) 22:10, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Also minor issue but should the Treasure Cart Bandits Chest go under the chest tab or the loot tab, I never know. Qiandaizi (talk) 14:45, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Do the bandits drop anything individually, or is the only loot from the event found in the chest? Mossywalker (talk) 18:52, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- They do if they engage in combat and don't run away, but you can grab stuff in the chest and run too. So the loot they drop in combat vs. the chest are distinct.Qiandaizi (talk) 23:50, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, then as these are distinct I'd recommend treating these as two separate things - so put the chest in the chest tab, and the loot in the loot tab. Mossywalker (talk) 07:48, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- There's something odd with the use of the where it seems to start a new line and changes the font when used in the middle of a sentence.
I don't think the does this. (No it seems not to.) How about the ? No? How about the ? Well, ok then. Qiandaizi (talk) 13:49, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for finding this, I've removed something that willows added as this seemed to be causing the issue. When Willows is back, and assuming this addition was a work in progress, we can try to add this back in in a way that doesn't break the font/line breaks.
Mossywalker (talk) 15:31, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Does seem to be working. However, this appears to now be happening to when it was not before.Qiandaizi (talk) 17:05, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, have also adjusted this one (might take a while to filter back through to all the pages that use the template) Mossywalker (talk) 17:20, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Category:Groups the Charsmith Apprentices is indexed under G
Qiandaizi (talk) 23:47, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, have fixed this and the Hunter and the Deer page - the issue was the way the group Category had been added to these pages Mossywalker (talk) 07:23, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
