Urchin-of-the-woods is named as such after resemblance to sea urchins due to their habit of growing on trees as sea urchins stick on boats. Although most tree mushrooms are poisonous, the urchin-of-the-woods is quite edible and has a vague pork-like taste. The interesting taste along with its rich protein content makes it a favourite among folk who avoid eating meat.
