A common root that grows in the many waterways of Braided Shore. The river root can be spotted by its calm-sulphur flowers that sprout on the rivers edge, the roots of the flower grow down and poke out through the side of the river where they can be easily harvested. The River Root must first be boiled in hot water to scrub off its natural oil which is toxic to Asken folk. The oil that boils off is then collected and can be used as lacquer to waterproof wooden structures and prevent ships from rotting. When boiled, the root itself becomes very moist and tasty, with a sweet taste and consistency not totally unlike sponge cake.
