The Quest

1) Starting the quest

The Old Man in Bat Saha.

Travel to the Bat Saha and talk to the Old Man in front of the teahouse. He can roam to the left or right. The Old Man will ask you to find an old friend from their mercenary days, and will suggest talking to a few of the other members of their group.

Note - Not all of the NPCs below need to be spoken to in order to progress the quest.

Bat Saha Dialogue

Dialogue
Speaking to Old Man for the first time Ho there, friend! You have the appearance of a Traveller. Perhaps you could help me. The end of my days are fast approaching, and I long for nothing more than to see my best friend of old. We were sadly separated many years ago, but my kinship with him has never waned. I want to see him again before I pass. Unfortunately, I do not know where he lives these days, but maybe one of our old mercenary band members knows. Could you find them, and ask if they know where he lives? I'll reward you for your efforts, of course. I have some equipment from my mercenary days that could greatly serve one such as you. You can find the other members in Lakatos String, Crossings, and Siram Fields. They should be there most days, at least. Keep an eye out for any retired mercenaries while you're there. I also heard that our old mercenary captain has been spotted around Crescent Link. He might know where to find my old friend. If you can't find him, try speaking with the other members.
Speaking to Old Man for a second time You can find me and my old friend's mutual friends in Lakatos String, Crossings and Siram Fields. Just keep an eye out for any retired mercenaries. Our old captain might be in Crescent Link, also.

2) Lakatos String

3) Crossings

The Retired Adventurer in Crossings.

Travel to Crossings and talk to the Retired Mercenary by the Oak of Four Winds. The Retired Mercenary remembers hearing something about an orchard, but recommends that you talk to the other mercenaries for more details.

Crossings Dialogue

Dialogue
Speaking to Retired Mercenary for the first time Hail, friend. You're helping out that old coot back on Bat Saha? He's finally trying to reconnect with his friend? I hear they had some major fight that caused them to walk away from each other. But I suppose it isn't bad to try and patch things up before one passes away. All of us served in the same mercenary company, but I didn't last as long as the rest of them. Couldn't stomach fightting all the time... I remember the old coot would go pale any time his friend talked about his wife back home, for some reason. Sadly, I don't know where his friend lives. I remember hearing something about an orchard, though. Maybe he and his wife bought one? Sorry I can't help more than that. Maybe you can check back with the old man on where our other former members live? They might know more.
Speaking to Retired Mercenary for a second time Good to see you again. Need a reminder on where to find the old coot's friend? All I know is that someone once mentioned his name and something about an orchard to me. This was many years ago though. And check back with the old man on where our former mercenary band members live nowadays.

4) Siram Fields

The Retired Adventurer in Siram Fields.

Travel to Siram Fields and talk to the Retired Mercenary on the south-west road to Kasa, or the north-east road to Kobham's Swerve. The Retired Mercenary is short-tempered, and recommends that you search for forests or talk to other members of the mercenary group.

Siram Fields Dialogue

Dialogue
Speaking to Retired Mercenary for the first time What? What do you want? Trying to help one dry old man find another dry old man? Scoff Great use of one's time. Well, not for me to judge, I suppose. I used to be the quartermaster of the mercenary band we all worked for, so I suppose it's only fair he would send you to me. I don't know where this dried up geezer's friend planted his rear end after those two had a falling out. All I know is that it was probably somewhere densely vegetated, like a forest or something. If you must spend your time chasing old men, then I guess that's where you can start. If you don't feel like searching through every forest around then you could go back and bother the old man again. He probably knows where the other members live. They might know more than me about where he ended up.
Speaking to Retired Mercenary for a second time Got memory problems? The geezer probably lives somewhere densely vegetated. Y'know, like a forest. Or check back with the old man on where the other former members live. Anything that gets you to stop bothering me.

5) Crescent Link

Travel to Crescent Link and talk to the Retired Mercenary Captain who is fishing on a small island along the coast. They will mention seeing their old recruit in Kuro Orchard.

Crescent Link Dialogue

Dialogue
Speaking to Retired Mercenary Captain for the first time Ah, one of my old Bat Saha reruits sent you to find me? Fine fighers, those boys. Back then, at least. I believe I know why you're here, and luckily I think I can help. Those boys were best friends even before they joined up with us. I got the feeling that they had been running together since they were children, and they showed no signs of stopping. I thought that nothing could come between them, but it seems I was wrong.

I won't disrespect my old soldiers by running my mouth about the drama between them. All I will say is that they came to blows over something, and it turned bloody. Yet, they both walked away. One back to Bat Saha, and the other as far away from there as he could. I had a chat with him the last time I passed through Kuro Orchard. I believe he works the mill there. I recommend going to see him before reporting back to his friend on Bat Saha. Out of respect, you see. Let it be his own choice if he wants to forgive and forget what happened.

Speaking to Retired Mercenary Captain for a second time Back again, wanderer? I'm just enjoying my retirement wih some fishing. Go see my old recruit in Kuro Orchard if you want to help him reconnect with his old friend.

6) Kuro Orchard

Travel to Kuro Orchard and talk to the Old Man's Old Friend near the mill. They will explain that the Old Man stole their wife, but is willing to meet with them to make amends.

Kuro Orchard Dialogue

Dialogue
Speaking to Old Man's Old Friend for the first time What can I do for you then, Khelim? Oh, my friend sent you to find me? Hah! Old mercenary buddies, we were. Did he ever tell you why we lost contact? He stole my wife, he did! All three of us grew up together, and he always had his eyes on her. But she chose me, and she stayed mine even after we paraded around as mercenaries. But that sly bugger, he bribed our captain so that I would be sent away for longer missions, and he'd be stationed near home, and he'd visit her every night. To "keep her safe" he said. Before too long, they ran off together, and I came back to find my home cold and empty. It wasn't until years later that I learned the full truth. He came back begging for forgiveness, apparently she had left him for another man. It felt like justice to me. He stole her from me, so someone else stole her from him. I told him he deserved what happened, and we fought. First with words, then with swords. I defeated him, but spared his pitiful life, and I left. I told him I never wanted to see him again. But I guess he never felt like he had closure on the whole thing, and we used to be very good friends before the whole debacle. Hmm, tell you what, I will visit him. Maybe I do forgive him after all this time. I can at least give him the courtesy of a final farewell before we both die. Tell him I will visit him soon. I'll hitch a ride from the next trading caravan heading that way.
Speaking to Old Man's Old Friend for a second time Back again, Khelim? I suppose I should thank you for giving me the chance to see my old friend again. Still haven't decided if I should forgive him or not. I probably should, it's been so long and my time grows short. As does his. I don't want either of us to pass away with unfinished business.

7) Returning to Old Man

Return to the Old Man in Bat Saha, who will be glad that you have found his friend, and pleased that they will visit soon. They will give you their old armour from their mercenary days.

Bat Saha Dialogue

Dialogue
Speaking to Old Man for the first time Any news, Khelim? Oh, you found him? And he will visit me soon? Truly? That's amazing news, friend! I can't begin to thank you! You've more than earned your rewards. Here, take this. I used to be quite the warrior, believe it or not. But now this armour does nothing more than gather dust in my house. It would be a lot more useful in your possession. Thank you again, friend!
Speaking to Old Man for a second time Hello again, friend! I'm excited to have reconnected with my old friend. Thank you again!
