Like white stars on the rippling surface of the outer sea, the Lotus flower symbolizes youth, rebirth, and the safekeeping of the spirit on its journey through a soul's existence. Though many Lotus flowers shows a hint of pale-cinnabar, the rare blood-lotus; a char coloured example is feared as a very bad omen. Superstitious Asken will try to send any blood-lotus they detect to the bottom by throwing rocks at them, while there are those with shady intent that would treasure such a find. It is seen as courteous to pick only from such lotus flowers that grow in tight clusters, while specimens that are not so crowded should be left in their place.
