Cobalt is one of several colours used in Braided Shore, and is the equivalent of blue.

Lore

The culture of Braided Shore places importance on cobalt being the endless colour of the ocean, of the poisonous azure wine, or sorrow and of no return.

As colour is a significant part of the culture of Braided Shore, cobalt and its meanings are reflected in the daily lives of Braided Shore inhabitants:

  • Cobalt carpet is used in sitting rooms, hallways and bedrooms of certain types of people, but it is very taboo to be used in a kitchen.
  • Cobalt wrapping is a wrap-round garment worn as a belt as a sign of grief or remembrance of the embrace of a loved one lost to the world.
  • The Cobalt Ribbon Gang is an established gang that specializes in violent robberies, smuggling, and supporting the sale of illicit and fake goods. Its members wear a cobalt ribbon as decoration.
  • Night-lighters, whose duty it is to light the various lanterns around major cities, wear backpacks the colour of cobalt moonlight.[1]
