I invited the Malku shopkeep over for dinner with some local families a few nights ago. I wanted to let them know that they're welcome, you know. But while the other guests brought tea leaves or cider as courtesy gifts, the Malku solemnly gave every guest a small box of salt. I think it might be a cultural thing, but we didn't mind. The salt went great with the main dish.
