Thriving in wet terrain and along humid coastal areas, the tahlam commonly grow in sub-species family clusters, making them unique in the way they bloom in a multitude of colours. The nature of their petals - glossy on the outside and slightly waxy and sticky on the inside - makes the flower a natural trap for smaller insects. A person infested with lice may benefit from wearing a garland of tahlam flowers in their hair.
