Book of Travels also differs from traditional MMOs because of its multiplayer design. Instead, we’re calling it a TMO – a Tiny Multiplayer Online. That’s because there really won’t be anything ‘massive’ about the multiplayer aspect of the game. Instead we’re building a game experience where there will just be a few people on each server, and when you cross paths, we want it to be a memorable moment. Should you choose to wander alone you won’t be missing out on any of the world’s wonder and enchantment. But if you do want to form a band of Travellers, the scarcity of other folk will make your companionships special and your group’s bond that much deeper.

A Tiny Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (TMORPG)[2] is:

  • Tiny - the number of players on a game server is severely limited;
  • Multiplayer - while the number of players on a game server is severely limited, it is likely there will be more than one player on a server;
  • Online - there is no offline component and can only be played if the player is connected to the internet;
  • Role-Playing - players control a character who will develop in an immersive and well-defined game world; and
  • A Game - a structured activity that passes the time or provides entertainment.

TMORPG is a phrase created by Might and Delight to describe their first online game: Meadow.[2]

Meadow is an open-world game in which the number of players on a game server is severely limited, reducing the number of shared player experiences.[2] Might and Delight observed the rarity of shared player experiences increased player perception of them.[2] Players felt a strengthened connection to each other, making shared player experiences more special and memorable.[2] Surprised at the emotional impact of these connections, Might and Delight became interested in further exploration of the TMORPG-style of game.[2]

Book of Travels is the second TMORPG Might and Delight has released.
