I tried to talk my brother into coming back to the Crafter's Union again. But he refuses. I swear he is tougher than the ropes he makes. My worries revolve around our father, who has been taken ill. I suspect my brother's turning his back on the Union, where the family has invested so much time and effort, has weakened the old man's resolve to fight the ailments that have been plaguing him for so long. I know Old Ez does not offer advice, but the next time I get the chance to get my knives and cutters sharpened by him, I will still go out on a limb and ask him for counsel.
