Fish Compendium
Take note, Khelim! This page contains SPOILERS from Book of Travels.
This quest is NOT REPEATABLE and can only be completed ONCE.
Fish Compendium is an advanced quest that involves the Fishing skill. There are several skill and item requirements detailed below.
This is a very long quest that involves travelling to many areas in Braided Shore.
Please note - this quest has a branching questline. The two branches follow the same steps until the completion of Step 6 below.

Requirements
- Fishing skill - recommended at least level 7 to successfully catch the fish
- Fold skill - recommended at least level 4 to successfully travel to Western Beacon island in West Wind Shores (not necessary)
- Casting fishing rod - to reach deeper fishing spots
- Bait - Soil worms can be used for all fish. Depending on player luck and the level of Fishing skill, it can take several hundred to catch all fish.
- 100 free volume
The Quest
1) Starting the quest
Travel to the shoreline in Travellers' Meadow near The Livid North Coast, and talk to Sebastih Baht Billows, the NPC in blue. Before you speak to them they will be labelled as 'Fish Documentor'. They ask you to catch a Cedar-pink ayu and return this to them.
There is a fishing spot just to the North. Catch a Cedar-pink ayu and return to Sebastih. They will be thankful and ask you to meet them in the Brim of Abarat to find the next fish on their list.
Note - The fish can be caught in other areas, or traded for from merchants.
You can also exchange the Cedar-pink ayu with Sebastih for two Knot of thankful wishes.

My reason for wanting the fish? Oh it's not for eating or mounting or anything like that. I am trying to knot a compendium of all the fish around Braided Shore. The work has been going smoothly for the most part. Folk around here in the West seem more than happy to share what they know of the local fish. The difficult part has been gathering information on the rarer specimen. The Fishers all seem to have different advice and information, so it seems that it falls to me to gather and study them myself. Just seeing the fish would be enough to knot something together but I would deeply appreciate it if you would trade me the fish as well. I am not rich but I would try to offer at least something in return. Hey... You did a good job. If you were interested in helping me further, meet me at the Brim of Abarat. And bring your fishing rod! |

2) Brim of Abarat
Travel to the Brim of Abarat and talk to Sebastih Baht Billows, who will be standing by some stones roughly halfway down the map (On the left-hand side of the "Brim of Abarat" ribbon on the in-game map). They ask you to catch a Prize-winning halibut and return this to them.
There are fishing spots on the Eastern coast. Catch a Prize-winning halibut and return to Sebastih. They will be thankful and ask you to meet them in Mist Keeper's Toe to find the next fish on their list.
Note - The fish can be caught in other areas, or traded for from merchants.
You can also exchange the Prize-winning halibut with Sebastih for two Knot of thankful wishes.

If you ever found your way around Billows I'd urge you to participate in the Pike King's Festival. You would no doubt place fairly high with skills like these. You know I participated once... Just once... ... Anyway, after this I am intending to scout out a place down south known as the Mist Keeper's Toe. Those streams are said to house an especially rare fish and I am going to need your help in verifying those claims! Oh and once again if you want to trade me the halibut then I would appreciate it! |

3) Mist Keeper's Toe
Travel to Mist Keeper's Toe and talk to Sebastih Baht Billows, who will be standing next to the main road overlooking the Ilma fishing spots. They ask you to catch a Lucky jadefin fish and return this to them.
Catch a Lucky Jadefin fish and return to Sebastih. They will be thankful and ask you to meet them in West Wind Shores to find the next fish on their list.
Note - The fish can be caught in other areas, or traded for from merchants.
You can also exchange the Lucky jadefin fish with Sebastih for two Knot of thankful wishes.

But the waters here, they do not scream or thrash as the rapids of Billows. They are serene, calm. Bah, you are kind to stand there and listen to me drone. But admiring the sights comes later! Now there are fish to catch! I managed to catch a glimpse of a bright jade crest the water just before you arrived. I believe that could be our prize! |
| When you return with the fish | Incredible. We never get fish like this in Billows. I doubt this little fellow could make it in those waters. Those beautiful scales almost look as if they would flake off if hit by a gentle breeze, much less the full force of the Fumes. I am sorry for dragging you half across Braided Shore and back just for a fish but I am hoping you will meet me once more back north. There is a lonely beach called West Wind Shores that is said to have a good number of fish that are only commonly found out at sea. I have a good feeling about that as our next destination. |

4) West Wind Shores
Travel to West Wind Shores and talk to Sebastih Baht Billows, who will be standing in the North-West corner of Keel Cliff nearby Junior Apprentice Kephi. They ask you to catch an Oarfish and return this to them.
Oarfish can be caught on the Western Beacon island in West Wind Shores. Fold of at least level 4 is the recommended method to travel to the island. Or you can catch it in Lakatos String. This fish has 100 volume! Catch an Oarfish and return to Sebastih. They will be thankful and ask you to meet them in the Jade Urn Pavillion to find the next fish on their list.
Note - On certain screen resolutions, it may be possible to travel to the island with Fold of level 3, or cast to the island fishing spot by standing in the water. These are not reliable methods of progressing the quest for all players.

West Wind Shores Dialogue

We called ourselves the little Esoterim, a little gang of sorts. It was me, Kephi and another student who called themselves Zaskia. I am glad that Kephi is safe and is doing well. We were all studious but she was the most academic. But I am rambling, you came all this way for the fish, not my old academy stories. If there was some rare ocean fish here in the west I'd bet that you could catch one here. Try to find a spot as far out on the water as you can. |

5) Jade Urn Pavillion
Travel to Jade Urn Pavillion and talk to Sebastih Baht Billows, who will be standing at the south of the map by the Char Mirror. They ask you to catch a Many-eyed gloomfish and return this to them.
Catch a Many-eyed gloomfish and return to Sebastih. They will be thankful and ask you to meet them in Charwood Forest to find the next fish on their list.
You can also exchange the Many-eyed gloomfish with Sebastih for two Knot of thankful wishes.

6) Charwood Forest
Travel to Charwood Forest and talk to Sebastih Baht Billows, who will be standing to the left of the Jesem Lodge in the North East corner of the map. They ask you to catch a Jade-eyed salmon and return this to them.
Catch a Jade-eyed salmon and return to Sebastih. They will be thankful and ask you to meet them in Siram Fields.

If you previously did not exchange the Many-eyed Gloomfish, you can also exchange the Jade-eyed salmon with Sebastih for two Knot of thankful wishes.

| When you first speak to Sebastih Baht Billows if you did not exchange the Many-eyed Gloomfish | Friend!! My heart is all aflutter from excitement every time I see you approach. Because I know that I will soon have another extraordinary fish to add to my...no, at this point I should call this our compendium. With my condition, my fear of water, I think deep down part of me suspected that my dream would remain as such forever. Would you allow me to tell you a story before you effortlessly catch another legend? I believe I have told you a bit about the Pike King's Gift festival in Billows. I attended my first one when I was very young. I remember sitting on my brother's shoulders as we watched father pull up this giant halibut. It nearly broke his rod! And I saw how his friends and the other residents patted his back and cheered him on. But what impacted me most was the smile on his face. At that point in time he was happy, an inner pride that I rarely saw in him. I snuck out that night. I was much too young to compete in the festival, but I desperately wanted my father to see my catch and for me to look at him with the same smile that he gave me. I was foolish. But children are fools. I borrowed my father's rod and stood out there by the rushing river, shivering in the cold. If anyone would have walked by they would have scarcely seen me standing there for no moonlight shone that night. I remember feeling something snag onto my hook. It could have been a fish or a stray branch. Nevertheless the force of the impact sent me tumbling down head-first into the rapids. I awoke days later, my brother pushing feverishly on my chest. I do not know how I survived so long, but I remember things. Dreams, I suppose. My drowning mind conjured images of a wet and horrid swamp. I was constantly treading water, the rotten swamp-ooze pooling in my mouth as soon as I tried to rest. Giant, impossibly large trees stretched upwards on the horizon, always seeming to be further away no matter how long I swam. And the smell...No, the stench. I remember it well, as if it was real. The same smell as the disgusting creature that you caught the other day. This is not a thing that I confide often, but you have helped me. So I thought that you deserved to know where my fear stemmed from. Haha, look at me oversharing. You came to help me catch fish! As you always do. 7) Siram Fields
Travel to Siram Fields and talk to Sebastih Baht Billows, who will be standing by the blockade on the South West road to Kasa.
If you previously exchanged the Many-eyed gloomfish with Sebastih, they will give you the Raving knot weave on the metaphysics of the gloomfish and ask you to deliver this to the Hooded Person at the Voices' Tavern in Little Slip. (Continue to step 8 below)
If you previously did not exchange the Many-eyed gloomfish with Sebastih, they will ask you to catch a Sweet Sylla and return this to them. Due to the blockade you will need enter Kasa through another route.

Catch a Sweet Sylla and return to Sebastih. They will be thankful and will give you the Fish compendium draft and ask you to deliver this to Junior Apprentice Kephi in West Wind Shores. (Continue to step 9 below)

I would like you to take it to my discrete patron, their representative will be waiting in the Voice's Tavern, on the shore of Little Slip. And with that our dealings will be done, I must isolate myself and dedicate my undivided attention to my research. |

8) Little Slip
If you previously exchanged the Many-eyed gloomfish with Sebastih, travel to Little Slip and talk to the Hooded Person, who will be seated on the left-hand side of the Voices' Tavern in Little Slip.
Exchange the Raving knot weave on the metaphysics of the gloomfish with them for Sodden boon, and the quest is complete.

9) West Wind Shores
If you previously did not exchange the Many-eyed gloomfish with Sebastih, travel to West Wind Shores and talk to Junior Apprentice Kephi.
Exchange the Fish compendium draft with them for Alsab rod called Pride, and the quest is complete.
West Wind Shores Dialogue

| When you first speak to Junior Apprentice Kephi | Ah! It's you! I've met you before haven't I? So you're the Khelim that Sebastih befriended. Does that mean he finally finished the compendium? Truth be told I don't know much about fish myself but when I saw the glint in his eyes when we met the other day I was filled with a sense of joy. And I suspect you may have something to do with his renewed sense of self, Khelim. Hm? He mentioned something that I was holding on to for him? Ah! It can only mean his rod. He asked me to hold on to his Alsab rod for him when he left the university. He always looked a bit pained when he held it, but I don't think he had it in him to throw it away either. |

There are two possible sets of rewards depending on the steps you chose to take in the quest.
